Seedance 2.5 at 1080p or Seedance 2.0 Pro at 4K: what the files contain
Seedance 2.0 Pro's 4K and Kling v3's 4K are real 4K pictures. The extra detail is real too, and it is small.

Seedance 2.5 tops out at 1080p. Seedance 2.0 Pro and Kling v3 sell a 4K tier. We wanted to know whether that 4K is a real 4K picture or a 1080p one stretched to fit, so we rendered the same prompt at both tiers and measured the files instead of eyeballing them.
What we rendered
One prompt full of fine texture, 16:9, 5 seconds, on the same morning from the same account, one render per tier: Seedance 2.5 at 1080p, Seedance 2.0 Pro at 1080p and at 4K, and Kling v3 at 1080p and at 4K. Seedance kept its default sound; Kling ran without sound on both tiers so the two matched.
A slow sideways camera move along the bow of an old wooden fishing boat pulled up on a pebble beach at sunrise. Peeling blue and white paint over weathered wood grain, rusted iron bolts, a coil of frayed hemp rope, a heap of green fishing net with small orange floats, wet pebbles and thin sea foam in the foreground, fine sea spray in the low golden light. Sharp, detailed, photorealistic. No people, no text, no logos.
Is the 4K picture real?
Yes, on both models. The pixel count is the easy part: both 4K files are 3840 by 2160. The harder question is whether those pixels carry detail a 1080p frame could not. We measured it on 8 frames of each clip: squeeze the frame to 1920 by 1080, stretch it back, and see how much of the picture was lost. A frame that is only a stretched 1080p picture loses almost nothing.
| 4K render | Detail above 1080p | Its 1080p render, stretched to 4K | Round trip, PSNR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0 Pro, 4K | 0.050% | 0.0033% | 44.5 dB, against 56.5 dB stretched |
| Kling v3, 4K | 0.107% | 0.011% | 44.6 dB, against 54.5 dB stretched |
Both 4K renders carry many times the fine detail of a stretched frame. Both numbers are also small in absolute terms: most of any natural picture lives at coarse scales. The drag slider shows what that looks like.

4K as deliveredSqueezed to 1080pWatch for this:Real detail, small gain. To our eyes, at normal viewing size on a laptop or phone, a 4K frame and its 1080p squeeze look the same. The 4K detail matters when you crop into the frame, stabilise, grade hard, or deliver to a 4K screen.
What the files contain
Measured with ffprobe on the files as delivered.
| Render | Frame | Codec and colour | Video bitrate | Submit to finished |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.5, 1080p | 1920 by 1080, 24 fps | HEVC, 10-bit | 16.8 Mb/s | 170 s |
| Seedance 2.0 Pro, 1080p | 1920 by 1080, 24 fps | H.264, 8-bit | 9.0 Mb/s | 184 s |
| Seedance 2.0 Pro, 4K | 3840 by 2160, 24 fps | HEVC, 10-bit | 26.2 Mb/s | 421 s |
| Kling v3, 1080p | 1920 by 1080, 24 fps | H.264, 8-bit | 19.5 Mb/s | 71 s |
| Kling v3, 4K | 3840 by 2160, 24 fps | H.264, 8-bit | 29.4 Mb/s | 88 s |
- The codec changes with the tier. Seedance 2.5 at 1080p and Seedance 2.0 Pro at 4K arrive as HEVC (H.265) with 10-bit colour. Seedance 2.0 Pro at 1080p and both Kling files are H.264, 8-bit. HEVC is not supported by every browser, editor or upload form, so check yours before you plan a delivery around it.
- Seedance 2.5's 1080p file is the richer 1080p. It carries nearly twice the bitrate of Seedance 2.0 Pro's 1080p file, in 10-bit colour, which holds up better under a strong grade.
- 4K takes longer on Seedance. Seedance 2.0 Pro at 4K took 421 seconds, two and a half times Seedance 2.5 at 1080p. Kling's 4K came back in 88 seconds, 17 seconds slower than its 1080p.
Watch them
These play re-encoded to 960 pixels wide so they load on a phone, which hides the 4K detail; the zooms above are from the files as delivered. Nothing loads until you press play.

Which to pick
| Your job | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Edit or extend a clip you already have | Seedance 2.5 at 1080p | The catalog lists edit and extend for Seedance 2.5 and not for Seedance 2.0 Pro. |
| A 4K master, or room to crop and reframe | Seedance 2.0 Pro or Kling v3 at 4K | Both return real 3840 by 2160 detail, measured above. |
| 4K without HEVC | Kling v3 at 4K | Its 4K file is H.264, and it came back in under a minute and a half. |
| Social, web or phone delivery | any 1080p tier | At phone size we could not see the 4K detail, and 1080p is faster and cheaper. |

Each tier's rate is read live from the price list for a 5 second clip; a longer clip costs proportionally more. The 4K tiers are the premium rows.
Method and limits
- One render per tier. The resolution and codec come from the tier, so they will repeat; the detail numbers depend on the picture and will move from render to render.
- Different renders of one prompt are different pictures, so we never compare detail across two renders. Each 4K clip is compared with itself squeezed to 1080p, and with its own model's 1080p render stretched to 4K as the control.
- The detail measure is the variance of the frame minus its 1080p round trip (area squeeze, bicubic stretch) over the variance of the frame, on 8 frames, median reported, on 16-bit greyscale decodes. It shows the detail is there. It cannot show whether the provider drew it at 4K or added it with a detail enhancing upscaler.
- When we started, every Seedance 2.0 Pro request at the 4K tier was refused before rendering, with nothing charged. The cause was on our side, in how the tier was passed to the provider, and it was fixed the same morning. The 4K render here came after the fix.
Questions and answers
- Is Seedance 2.0 Pro's 4K real 4K?
- Yes. The file is 3840 by 2160, and it carries about 15 times the fine detail of its own 1080p render stretched to that size, by our measure.
- Should I render at 4K?
- Only if the delivery is 4K or you plan to crop, stabilise or grade hard. For social, web and phone, 1080p shows the same picture, renders faster and costs less.
- Why will my Seedance file not play in my editor?
- Seedance 2.5 at 1080p and Seedance 2.0 Pro at 4K arrive as HEVC with 10-bit colour. Some browsers and editors do not open HEVC. Use a tool that does, or convert the file to H.264.
- Is Kling v3's 4K real too?
- Yes. It is 3840 by 2160 with about ten times the fine detail of its stretched 1080p render, and it is H.264, so it opens almost anywhere.
