NOLGIA for DaVinci Resolve

Let your agent work in DaVinci Resolve.

The free NOLGIA plugin for DaVinci Resolve Studio connects the project you have open to NOLGIA, so your AI agent can read it, run Python, render frames into your Library, bring in your NOLGIA media and film-look LUTs, and render exports. Your projects stay in Resolve's project library on your computer.

Version 0.1.0 · nolgia-resolve-0.1.0.zip · Free · DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 or later · Tested on Windows and macOS

For filmmakers: the same clip playing side by side, then graded with Kodak Portra 400. Then a screen recording of the NOLGIA window in DaVinci Resolve running import_asset in the project.

What you need

  • The About DaVinci Resolve window from the plugin page shoot, under the version the plugin needs: DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 or later.
DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 or laterThe Studio edition: since 21.1, Resolve runs Python scripts only in Studio, so the free edition cannot run the plugin. Tested on Windows and macOS; it is written for Linux too, but has not been run there yet.
  • NOLGIA's sign in page, under A NOLGIA account, free to create.
A NOLGIA accountFree to create. The plugin signs in with it.
  • Claude Code showing the NOLGIA MCP server connected and authenticated, under NOLGIA connected.
An agent with NOLGIA connectedClaude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or another MCP client, or NOLGIA Agent.

What your agent can do

Real hands in your timeline.

Your agent works through NOLGIA's app tools, and every command shows in the NOLGIA window's Activity list.

  • Still describing your timeline to AI? It reads the timeline: DaVinci Resolve beside the agent's answer, a 1920x1080 24 fps project with one bin and a 289 frame timeline.

    Read the project

Resolve's version and edition, the page you are on, the open project, the current timeline with its frame rate, size, start timecode, length, tracks, selected clips and the clip under the playhead, the other timelines, the media pool's bins and the render presets.

  • Building the cut clip by clip? Cut assembled: the rooftop, fire-escape and street clips placed in order on the timeline, with the music underneath.

    Run Python

Change the project step by step with Resolve's own scripting API, and get back what each step did. The code sees the project, the media pool and the current timeline. Ask before running code shows you each piece first.

  • Scrubbing the cut to check it? It checks the cut: four frames of the vertical cut at 01:00:03:12, 01:00:11:00, 01:00:15:00 and 01:00:21:12.

    Render frames into your Library

Any frame of a timeline, by frame or by timecode, so your agent can look at its own cut.

  • Hunting for the right film look? Film look, applied: a golden-hour close-up before and after Kodak Portra 400, installed as a LUT.

Import your NOLGIA media and LUTs

Images, videos and audio from your Library into a NOLGIA imports bin or straight onto the end of the timeline, a whole NOLGIA project at once, and NOLGIA's film-look color presets installed as LUTs and applied to the clips you choose.

  • Opening Deliver, again? Rendered for you: a frame of the graded cut, an MP4 H.264 at 720x1280 and 24 fps with the timeline's audio.

    Export to your Library

MP4 video (H.264, with the timeline's audio) and PNG frames, rendered at the timeline's size and uploaded to your NOLGIA Library. Renders go to a temporary folder, never over your files, and the Deliver page is put back as it was.

  • Afraid AI will lose your grade? It asks first: the NOLGIA window asking before it opens another project, because changes not saved are lost.

    Save and open projects

Save the open project, or open another one from Resolve's project library. NOLGIA asks you first before it opens another project.

Your projects stay in Resolve's project library on your computer and are never uploaded to NOLGIA; only the frames and exports you ask for go to your Library. Imported media is kept in Documents, in a NOLGIA imports folder, so Resolve can find it.

Install

Five steps, a few minutes.

The plugin uses only Python's standard library, so there is nothing else to install. It remembers your sign in, and reconnects when you open the NOLGIA window if you left Connected on.

  1. The browser's download list with the DaVinci Resolve plugin file.

Download the plugin and unzip it

Download nolgia-resolve-0.1.0.zip and unzip it in your Downloads folder (Safari unzips it by itself, into nolgia-resolve-0). The folder holds the installer for each system and the two files it copies.

  2. Command Prompt after the plugin's installer printed NOLGIA is installed in: and Resolve's Scripts folder.

Quit Resolve and run the installer

Quit DaVinci Resolve (it finds new scripts when it starts), then run the installer in the unzipped folder: double-click install.cmd on Windows, or run sh install.sh in Terminal on macOS. It copies NOLGIA.py and nolgia_resolve.zip into Resolve's Scripts folder for your user, so it needs no administrator rights.

Prefer a command? Open Command Prompt on Windows (press the Windows key, type cmd, press Enter) or Terminal on macOS and paste the one for your computer.

    Command Prompt
    "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\nolgia-resolve-0.1.0\install.cmd"

It prints NOLGIA is installed in: and the folder. Unzipped somewhere else? Change the path. To install by hand, copy NOLGIA.py and nolgia_resolve.zip from the Utility folder into %APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Scripts\Utility on Windows or ~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Scripts/Utility on macOS.

  3. DaVinci Resolve's Workspace menu open on Scripts, NOLGIA.

    Open the NOLGIA window

Start DaVinci Resolve and choose Workspace > Scripts > NOLGIA. The NOLGIA window opens.

  4. The NOLGIA window asking you to enter its sign in code in your browser, the code shown large, beside the browser's Connect your device page with the same code.

    Sign in with the code

Click Sign in. Your browser opens a NOLGIA page: check that the code matches the one in the NOLGIA window, then approve it.

  5. The NOLGIA window reading Connected. NOLGIA can work in this DaVinci Resolve.

Keep the window open with Connected on

The window reads “Connected. NOLGIA can work in this DaVinci Resolve.” Now ask your agent to work in your project. Closing the window switches NOLGIA off; open it again and it reconnects if you left Connected on.

The NOLGIA window

You decide what it may do.

Everything lives in the NOLGIA window (Workspace > Scripts > NOLGIA). NOLGIA works in Resolve only while the window is open: closing it switches NOLGIA off, and opening it again reconnects if you left Connected on.

Connected
NOLGIA can send commands to this DaVinci Resolve only while this is on.
Activity and Pause
Every command your agent sends, with its status. Pause stops it at any time; Resume picks up again.
Ask before running code
Shows every piece of Python first, in a NOLGIA request window, and waits for Run code or Deny. Closing that window leaves the request waiting; Show request brings it back.
Allow NOLGIA Agent
Also lets your NOLGIA Agent in the cloud work here, not only the agents you run yourself.
Sign out
Disconnects and forgets the sign in on this computer.

Python your agent runs in DaVinci Resolve runs on your computer with your permissions, like any script. Turn on Ask before running code to see it first, and only connect agents you trust.

The sign in and the switches are kept in a NOLGIA folder for your user, next to a log of what the plugin did. The log never holds the token.

The NOLGIA window connected: the Connected, Allow NOLGIA Agent and Ask before running code switches, and an Activity list of commands with their state.
The NOLGIA window asking before it runs Python: the code, Run code and Deny, and the note that code runs on this computer.
Ask before running code
The NOLGIA window switched off: the Connected switch is off and the status line says so.

Film assistant presets

Workflows made for DaVinci Resolve.

Each preset is a written workflow your agent follows step by step in your own project. The work in DaVinci Resolve is free; NOLGIA generation along the way is priced as usual.

All Film assistant presets

The DaVinci Resolve presets are on their way. Your agent can already work in DaVinci Resolve with plain requests.

Troubleshooting

If something is not working.

My agent says DaVinci Resolve is not connected.
Open the NOLGIA window (Scripts in the Workspace menu, then NOLGIA). It should read “Connected. NOLGIA can work in this DaVinci Resolve.” If it says Switched off, turn Connected on. If it asks you to sign in again, click Sign in. Closing the window switches NOLGIA off, so keep it open while your agent works. Your agent has to use the same NOLGIA account as the plugin, and NOLGIA Agent can only reach Resolve while Allow NOLGIA Agent is on.
NOLGIA is not in the Scripts menu.
Resolve finds new scripts when it starts, so quit it completely and start it again. If NOLGIA is still missing, check that NOLGIA.py and nolgia_resolve.zip are in Resolve's Scripts folder for your user (%APPDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Scripts\Utility on Windows). The Scripts menu lists NOLGIA at its top level.
Does it work with my version of DaVinci Resolve?
It needs DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 or later. The free edition cannot run it: since 21.1, Resolve runs Python scripts only in the Studio edition. The About DaVinci Resolve window shows your version and edition. The plugin was tested on Windows and macOS and has not been tried on Linux yet.
The window says it cannot reach NOLGIA.
The plugin connects out to api.nolgia.ai over HTTPS, the same way your browser does, and keeps trying on its own. Frames and exports upload to NOLGIA's file storage at storage.googleapis.com. Nothing connects in to your computer, so no port needs opening. On a work or school network a firewall or proxy may block it: ask for api.nolgia.ai and storage.googleapis.com to be allowed.
My agent is waiting and nothing happens.
With Ask before running code on, the plugin waits for you: the NOLGIA request window shows the code, so click Run code or Deny. If you closed that window, click Show request in the NOLGIA window. A paused plugin runs nothing until you click Resume. A long run holds the NOLGIA window until it ends.
Why does NOLGIA ask before it opens another project?
Resolve's scripting cannot tell whether a project has unsaved changes, so with the NOLGIA window open the plugin always asks you first. Save your project if you want to keep your changes, then click Open project.
Where do the LUTs go?
Into a NOLGIA folder in the LUT folder Resolve reads, named after the preset, like Kodak Portra 400.cube. On Windows that is %PROGRAMDATA%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT\NOLGIA, Resolve's LUT folder for all users of the computer, which needs no administrator rights. A color preset replaces its own older copy; a LUT from your Library never replaces another file.
