How do I put myself in a video without filming?

September 19, 2026 · 3 min read

The You on camera preset makes a short clip of you, or any saved character, in a place you pick, with a camera move you choose. It starts from a character you save once on the Characters page, so every clip after that uses the same face.

Most of the quality comes from the character, so this guide spends a step on getting the reference photos right.

What you need

  • Who is on camera?

    Required

Pick yourself or any saved character. No character yet? Create one on the Characters page from three to eight clear photos: front, three quarter and profile, even light, no sunglasses.

  • Where are they?

    Optional

Pick a place, or describe your own in the next step.

  • Or describe your own place

    Optional

Any place you can put into words. Leave it empty to use the place above.

  • What do they do?

    Optional

One simple action reads best in five seconds. Skip it and they walk toward the camera and smile.

  • Camera move

    Optional

How the camera moves through the shot.

  • Frame shape

    Optional

Sets the frame for where the clip will be posted.

Step by step

  1. Create your character

On the Characters page, add three to eight clear photos of yourself and save them as a character. You can also ask the NOLGIA Agent to make a character of you and it walks you through it.

  2. Check that it says Ready

NOLGIA checks every reference photo for a face. The character shows Ready when its main photo shows one face, front on. If it says Needs a front view, No face found or Several faces, use Fix references and pick a better main photo.

  3. Open the preset and pick the character

Open You on camera. The first card asks who is on camera; pick your character.

  4. Choose the place and the move

Pick a place from the list or describe your own, say what you do in one simple action, then pick a camera move such as a push-in, an orbit or a crane up from the same camera move library as the video composer, and the frame shape for where you will post.

  5. Create and check the match

The clip renders on Hailuo 3. When it lands, the identity match on the result tells you how closely the face matches your character.

FAQ

Questions and answers.

Do I need to film anything?
No. You only need photos of yourself for the character. The preset makes the video.
What photos work best for the character?
Three to eight photos: one from the front, one turned halfway and one from the side, in even daylight, with nothing covering the face and nobody else in the picture. The Characters page has the full photo guide.
Can I use it with someone else?
Use characters of people who have agreed to it, such as yourself or a team member who gave you their photos.
Which model makes the clip?
You on camera runs on Hailuo 3. The preset picks it for you.
Can I get a still picture instead?
Yes. The You in any scene preset puts the same character into a still picture.
